Process of creating Zoetrope
Whilst also showing may final illustrations for my zoetrope, if felt it's also important to show the process I went through to develop these ideas as during the time of my final creation I did have some changes. Therefore below shows a panel of sketches all showing some initial sketches that I was then due too colour in.
Although I finished these sketches, and did feel they worked well, if felt there was a lack of information and personality regarding my character. Therefore after having a rethink about different element I could change, I decided I wanted to capture Valentina in her space suit surround by the space background that is featured often in my Visual Application project. Therefore once deciding this I started again begining to sketch the line work which would act as a guide for colouring and creating the final illustrations.
Above shows myself screenshot from striating again. However, although I decided to redraw every scene I did add some elements from the previous draws for example I copied the face from the fourth panel as I was happy with how its looked and how it captured Valentina's features. Not only did this help keep the overall look but also made it more efficient and time saving. Once finishing this line work I began adding colour and bringing my illustrations to life.
Above shows a screenshot taken from my iPad during the colouring phase of my production. From this screenshot you can see I have chosen to work digitally for my zoetrope work. I chose this as I felt I would be able to compare the drawings Wirth each other making sure the height and shape stays similar by using the opacity tool to refer back to. This is something that was important for creating my panels for the zoetrope illustration as I want it to appear realistic and show character. In this screenshot above you can also see I've show my tool library, I tend to stick to my 6b pencil brush as I love the texture it uses and feels it adds further depth and character to the drawing.
The screenshot above shows all the different layers I used to create the different drawings. It is important for me to work in layers so. can see how I build my drawings and add detail to create the finished piece.
Once I finished drawing all the individual I decided to save them, and put them altogether in a sequence. This is how the images would be printed and presented for the Zoetrope machine therefore I wanted to show this as the final look. I made the individual images 10cm x 10cm therefore I pasted them onto a digital canvas of 120cmx10cm.
Overall I was happy with the process, I felt it ran smoothly and overall captured all the details and elements that I wanted tit to. Too ee the final outcome I posted this on a separate blog post to show the final animation.
