Final Visual Application Animation

As part of Introduction to animation project we were to create a final animation inspired by our visual application narrative project. After experimenting with a range of different types of animation both traditional and digital, I decided to go forward with the idea of sticking to stop motion using paper elements. After completing a practise and testing how this would look really like the outcome and feel it could be developed positively to look more professional and tell my chosen narrative further.

Above shows my final animation in which I created to show Valentina as she blasts of into space. When developing my ideas I also found I wanted to break up by adding a second scene which involves Valentina coming onto the screen. I wanted too give her moveable elements so I made a paper puppets using twistable pins that allowed movements in the limbs. Of course this was a very obvious element and didn't have a realistic look however, I feel it added an overall charm to the animation.

Above shows the puppet I created digitally before cutting and creating it to make it come to life within my animation. I felt this was a successful element, and although it only added a few seconds to my animation I found it gave the viewers another view as-well as showing my character.

Overall I took around 200 pictures and made it to be around 10 frames per second. This is defiantly a lower number for an animation and if I was working digitally I would work a lot higher, however, due to it being a stop motion I wanted to play with that clunky look therefore I made it slightly slower so there key frames could easily be identified and add to the overall playful charm.

Overall I am happy with how my final animation came out, after lots of debating to how I would produce this I was glad I went with the digitally printed elements bringing that modern twist to the traditional technique. If I was to improve this any further I would make sure my paper elements were much smoother and have a higher quality when printed. However, overall as someone who is not as confident with he animation process I am happy with the final product I rewarded.

I have also produced a blog post in which I go more in-depth into my process producing this animation, including my setup and editing.
