Digital animation experimentation for VA Animation

With the end of the project approaching part of the introduction to animation projects to create and animation based off our Visual Application project. To do this we were too pick a moment from our storyboard narrative. For mine I knew I wanted to capture the moment the Vostok 6 is in space and flying amongst the stars and planets. However, when trying to produce this it was trying to work. out how I could do this to make it look effective and professional. During my introduction to animation project I had enjoyed working with the iPad software, procreate, I enjoyed its form of animation and the different brushes that allowed met to create an image in a style that I wanted. Therefore I began to experiment with some different ideas.

This was the first idea I had for the animation, and that was to simply move the rocket through the space. I liked the idea and wanted to compliment this with secondary animation within the background. Therefore I created two scenes with different wave patterns that would create movement in the background.  These were then copied and pasted alternating per frame to create the secondary animation. I liked this part of the animation as I felt its worked effectively and added an extra element which would draw the viewer in. and also suggest more about the surrounding environment. However, there were elements I was certainly not happy with. for example the movement ion the rocket felt very poor and week as it felt very stuttered within it's movements. I felt this looked unprofessional and something I was not happy with. I also found this method very time consuming and with needed two create a ten second animation this will not be a very effective technique.

Therefore once rethinking my Digital animation techniques I wondered if I could create an illusion of movement by only animating certain elements, for example instead of physically moving the space craft, I would instead create movement within he smoke and fumes that come out the bottom ads well as the background. this way I am able to create a lengthier piece of animation that is simpler and yet still works effectively. I did like how this looked and when played in a loop I felt it looked simple yet fun. However, there are defiantly elements that I was worried about for example as planets come into the image I feel there will be a lack of change within the lighting on the rocket and therefore will lack that sense of realism within he illustration animation.

Therefore, moving forward towards my final piece, I would definitely like to carry on with this animation and see fi it could become successful digitally however, I enjoyed creating my stoop motion project earlier on therefore, I could create a similar look however printing the different elements and taking individual photos in a stop motion style.
